Google Pixel 6a
Design & Build
The Google Pixel 6a sports a clean and compact design, drawing inspiration from its flagship siblings, the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. It features a premium build with a polycarbonate back, aluminum frame, and a distinctive horizontal camera bar. It is IP67 rated, meaning it is resistant to dust and can withstand immersion in water up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. The phone measures 152.2 x 71.8 x 8.9 mm and weighs just 178g, making it comfortable for one-handed use.
Display
The device has a 6.1-inch OLED display with a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and a 20:9 aspect ratio. The screen supports HDR, offers vibrant colors, and excellent contrast, though it’s limited to a 60Hz refresh rate, which may feel a bit dated compared to higher-end phones. The Always-On Display and Now Playing features add a layer of smart utility to the screen.
Performance
Under the hood, the Pixel 6a is powered by Google’s custom-built Tensor chipset—the same processor used in the flagship Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. It's paired with 6GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage (non-expandable). The Tensor chip delivers strong performance in AI-based tasks, voice processing, and real-time language translation. The phone runs stock Android with no bloatware and gets 5 years of security updates and 3 years of OS upgrades, making it one of the best in its class for software longevity.
Camera System
Despite using older camera hardware (a 12.2MP main sensor and 12MP ultra-wide), the Pixel 6a excels in photography thanks to Google’s powerful computational photography algorithms. The rear cameras support features like Night Sight, Portrait Mode, Super Res Zoom, and Magic Eraser. The 8MP front camera offers great selfies and supports facial recognition. Video recording is available at 4K@30/60fps and 1080p@30/60/120fps with excellent stabilization and clarity.
Battery Life
It houses a 4410mAh battery, providing all-day battery life for moderate to heavy use. It supports 18W fast charging via USB-C, but wireless charging is not supported. Battery optimization through the Tensor chip and stock Android makes the device efficient and long-lasting.
Software
The Pixel 6a launched with Android 12 and is upgradable to the latest Android versions. Being a Pixel device, it gets priority access to Android updates and exclusive features like Pixel Recorder with live transcription, Live Translate, and Call Screening with Google Assistant.
Security & Biometrics
Security is a strong suit with Titan M2 security chip, ensuring protection at the hardware level. The device includes an under-display fingerprint sensor, though its performance has received mixed reviews.
